The Deluxe Programmable On-Board Glow Driver is our first to incorporate PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology to power a glow plug.  The advantage of powering a glow plug with PWM is that it allows us to drive the plug using a battery of almost any voltage and/or any type, i.e Ni-CD/NiMH, Li-Ion, LiFE, or LiPo, without the need for power-wasting regulators or buck converters.  Those methods produce heat as they reduce the battery's voltage down into the 1.5 volt range necessary for a glow plug, and that reduces the battery's ability to power the plug for multiple flights between charging.  Using PWM allows the modeler to choose between battery packs you may already have, and to power the plug with a lithium-based battery that can be charged in just a couple of hours, rather than the 10-12 hours required to recharge a nickel-based battery pack.
 
To make this glow driver as versatile as possible, we have designed it to use any of four different commonly-used battery pack voltages and types.  The four available voltages are:
3.6 volt 1S Li-Ion (like a single #18650 cell)
4.8 volt 4-cell NiCad/NiMH pack
6.6 volt 2S LiFE pack
7.4 volt 2S LiPo pack
The voltage is selected using a "Voltage Select" button on the bottom right corner of the circuit board, and an LED along the top edge of the board indicates the voltage you have selected.  The circuit also features a "Low Voltage Warning" light that indicates when the connected pack's voltage has dropped below the level necessary to produce a good, hot glow plug.

Like our Basic Glow Driver, the Deluxe Glow Driver can be programmed to light the plug at any throttle stick position.  Simply place the throttle stick at the point BELOW which you want the glow plug to be powered, and press the "Throttle Set" button on the lower left corner of the circuit board.  The action of the throttle's "ON" point can also be revered to accommodate setups in which the throttle servo's action is reversed.
 
This product is available in a Single-Cylinder version, as well as a Twin-Cylinder and a Twin-Engine version, and can be customized for glow engines with more than two cylinders.  Use our Contact Form and let us know if you have a need for a multi-cylinder version.
